OVERSIGHT HEARING ON WELFARE REFORM IMPLEMENTATION

State Senator Diane E. Watson, Chairwoman of the California State
Senate Health and Human Services Committee, today announced an
oversight hearing on the implementation of welfare reform, highlighting
two county plans, Los Angeles County and Orange County. There also
will be panelists discussing innovative job training programs.

PURPOSE: Los Angeles County and Orange County will describe:
o The process through which each county's CalWORKs plan was designed;
o The major components of each county's plan; including child care,
mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, and job training;
o Areas of the CalWORKs legislation that need further clarification or
modification.
